Stress Less: How to Move Home with Ease

Life is full of ups and downs at even the easiest times throughout our lives - but when you throw moving house into the mix - it can become almost unbearable for some of us. Worst of all, it's something we have to do not only once - but often several times.

However, moving home doesn't need to be as bad as what you might think. In fact, you should embrace it as being something new and refreshing; a new beginning.

Plan, Plan, PLAN!

When you don't have a plan put in place (as with anything in life) you're planning to fail. A plan will help you save time, energy and end up reducing the amount of stress associated with moving. When you have established your moving date, you can start planning the things that need to be done. For example, there might be several boxes in the kitchen that need packing, or items in the kitchen that you will no longer required and will need to be thrown out.

Do these things BEFORE your start date, and it will make the actual process of moving much easier. Most importantly, WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. When it's written down clearly in a checklist format, you can tick off the tasks that have been completed, and see what's left that still needs to be done.

Don't Forget the Boring Things

Bills need to be paid, internet needs to be transferred to your new house, and banks need to be notified of your change in address. These things may seem small, but they will save you a lot of time and mucking around later on down the track.

Like we mentioned before, you should write down a list of the things that need to be done. Your list might look something like this:

  • Call bank to change details
  • Pay electricity bill and inform them of moving date
  • Start transferring internet to new address (this can sometimes take a lot longer than you might think! So it's best to get it sorted as soon as you can)

Treat Yourself (and Your Partner)

Moving can be stressful, causing arguments (even about small things like "what goes where") but it's important to remember that you're only human are we're all limited in what we can do on any given day. Due to this, make sure you treat yourself. Grab a pizza after your hard day's work, or take your partner out for dinner. This can help relieve any unnecessary tensions and put you in good stead for the following day.
