When you are moving home, you will have to decide on the type of home that you want to live in. Of the many different types of housing, the two main ones are apartments and houses. In order to make a decision on which type of housing is the best for you, you will need to learn about the main differences between these two types. Fortunately, this article aims to educate you on some of the things that you will want to compare between houses and apartments.

Size of home

Size can be a big determining factor when someone decides on a new home. Not only does size affect how much furniture you can fit in your home, It also determines other things such as living space, storage and even how many different types of rooms the home has. In terms of size, houses are generally significantly larger than apartments. Many homes will have multiple floors, a feature that is not typical of most apartments.

Cost of home

When looking at potential housing options, you should have a budget in mind. Having a budget is important as it will help you filter out what you can and can't afford. This will save you time as you won't be wasting your time looking at homes that are outside of your price range. Not only will a budget tell you what you can't afford, it will also tell you what you can. This means that you will be able to filter out any homes that are significantly below your budget. There are exceptions but generally cheaper housing will be lower quality.

When comparing houses and apartments, houses tend to be more expensive to rent. This is because of the various advantages that they tend to have over apartments such as size. This does however give apartments the advantage of being significantly more affordable. Because of this, if you are on a very tight budget, you may want to be looking into apartments rather than houses.

Neighbours

Neighbours are an important thing to consider when moving home. This includes both the neighbours, as individuals as well as their proximity to your home. If your home and your neighbours are close to each other, then they are more likely to hear any sounds that you may make. This is even more apparent if your home is small, as this will mean that you will always be in close proximity to your neighbours. Because of the nature of both apartments and houses, there are differences in how close they are to other homes. In general, apartments are attached to other apartments. This means that not only are you in close proximity with your neighbours, you also share a wall. Meaning that your neighbours are even more likely to hear any noises that you may make. Houses don't tend to have this issue. If you or someone you live with makes a lot of noise or is very sensitive to noise, you may find it problematic to live in an apartment.
